Icky Dessert

5 Jul

July 4th, good times, family and food.

Well, some good food…and some not so good.

Yesterday, I was laying in bed watching the Today show and making a list of food that I wanted to cook up for the day. I wanted something “different”.  Oh good here comes the food segment, wowee… Campfire bread pudding with hot dogs buns! How absolutely festive, just like banana’s fosters but with hot dog buns!

Fast forward to 10 o’clock at night which is the time that we actually got around to dessert. I don’t care if I am eatin’ this at midnight, I’m makin’ it. That may have been the alcohol talkin’ by the way. By this time the fire had long gone out and I decided I was going to make it in the oven, which the recipes says will work just fine.

 I can’t wait! I can’t wait. I can’t wait!!

I put it in the oven and went in the bedroom to soak up some TV. I say to my husband, don’t let me go to sleep with that stuff in the oven.

30 mins later, I am suddenly awakened by my husband shouting, You got that stuff in the oven!! I jump out of bed and run to oven, smells delish! Lets do this!

As I was dishing it out, I noticed that it looked rather INTER-esting. It has a super weird and totally unapplealing  consistency, like syrupy mushy scrambledy eggs mixed with banana and bread lumps that were soft on the bottom and hard as rocks on the top. I think I saw it moving.

 Should we consume this?

I handed the plate to my husband without prior warning and we both cleaned our plates. The taste was actually pretty good, don’t think about it just eat it.

When I got out of bed to take the plates back to the kitchen, my husband turned to me in all seriousness and said, “I hope this doesn’t kill me”. I say, “Yep, that was just icky”.

I’m happy to say that we made it through unharmed, but the thought of the pudding has scarred me for life.

Next July 4th I will be skipping the bread pudding and substituting plain ‘ole boring and predictably good and normal watermelon.

Hope you had a great 4th!

Crafty Ideas from the People of the Interwebs

29 May

The people of the interwebs are so darn crafty!

Here’s a couple of ideas, I thought would be fun to DIY.

Tulle Socks

I’m a girl and I love anything with tulle and these tulle socks from Shinetrimblog are just righteous!  If you can sew a little you can make yourself a pair of these bad boys. Click here for the tutorial.

Chain Headband

6889669640_8e864295ae_oYou could totally rock this chain headband from the love Meagan blog, stand out at the beach or an outdoor concert. Yep.  Click here to see how to do it.

Back Love (Heart Cut Tee)

heart00

Simple heart cut out tee from the made in pretoria blog. This would be real cute over your swimsuit and it takes about 5 minutes to make. Click here  to make yourself one.

Graffiti Lampshade

I love, love this idea. It comes from the chick at alittle glass box blog. She wrote a letter to her son on a piece of linen material and then covered a lampshade with it for his room. This is a super cool idea for a kids room or nursery.  Would also be awesome  for an Anniversary present, Valentines day, a newly married couple setting up house or your boyfriend. You could write your vows on it, your favorite poem, a love letter or any ole thing you feel like. Beautiful.

Two Funky Summer Hairdos: Dip Dye and Bleach Bangs!

14 Jun

It’s Summer…. why not put some funky in your hairdo!

#1 Dip Dye

Check out my daughters dip dye job!

Dip dying is in and I found that most people like to use SPLAT to do it.  We used the Pink Fetish kit. It comes with a bleach and a color. We skipped right over the bleach part and just put the dye straight on since her hair is already light.

I just put some dye in my (gloved) fingers and kinda pulled down on the tips, making sure it was well saturated and even. Don’t let this stuff touch anything that you don’t won’t permanently pink.  I left it on for about 20 minutes. Rinsed, shampooed…. instant cool!

The color turned out pretty and almost had a sparkly appearance.

(Warning: when you wash your hair use ole towels and be sure to dry the colored part before sittin’ on a couch or going to bed. The color rubs off a little when wet)

#2 Bleach Beach Bangs

I put a little beach in my bangs for the Summer!

My hair coloring journey started years back when a beauty salon chick (you know who you are) ruined my hair. I decided then and there if my hair is gettin’ ruined, I’m gonna be in control of it,  darn’it!

Now home bleaching can seem a little complicated and scary at first and requires a little research, some professional products and some trial and error.  YouTube chicks can serve as a great resource and somewhat of a guide for what you should and shouldn’t do.

Unfortunately, Bleach does do a little damage to your locks…the price you pay for beauty:)
