Distressed 6 Dollar Estate Chair With Good Bones
Acrylic Paint {Vermilion Orange} & Textile Medium & Foam Brush From Hobby Lobby
What I did:
Gave the chair a quick wipe down with a little warm soapy water and let dry
Mixed 2 parts paint to 1 part textile medium {the medium will help the paint adhere to the fabric and keep it from getting stiff as a brick}
I started with a small section and sprayed it with a water bottle to get the fabric slightly wet, you want the paint to soak into the fabric.
I used long broad strokes and worked fairly quick. Depending on the type of fabric you have, it can be a little tricky to keep the paint even looking. Try not to freak out if it gets splotchy, just keep painting and smoothing it out.
I painted and painted and then painted some more…I ended up putting two coats on to achieve the desired color.
I think I’m in love. Its not perfect, but pretty good for a first attempt. I love the character that the rips and tears give this chair and the color is to die for. I also REALLY like saying the word “Vermilion”. If you say it with a sinister accent, its sound very eee-vil and mysterious.
You wouldn’t want to have an entire living room of painted furniture, but for an accent piece, its fantastical!
The cushion part is still fairly soft, it has a little bit of a leathery feel and look and slightly rough texture to it, but you can sit in it without feeling like the paint is cracking or that it will rub off onto your bootie.
There are tons of tutorials and various methods online for painting upholstery, just pick one and go for it!
Happy Fall

2014, we are two months in and you are interesting already~
I turned 40 and it feels just like 39…except for a couple of new gray hairs.
I got a mini pony, his name is Tater. Every morning, when he sees me coming out of the house, he gallops across the pasture to say “Hi” and also to find out if I have a carrot in my pocket. He is a noble steed.
I finally got a vintage sofa. It has pink and white stripes and carved roses. What else do I need to say.
I made candy glass for a Frozen birthday cake for my daughter without a candy thermometer and it turned out PERFECT and I didn’t burn off any skin with the 300 degree sugar. Will never be able to repeat that victory.
I also made a Rodarte celestial hair clip, now I can pretend to be a supermodel! You can buy an original for $600.00 or make one for $10.00. Your choice.
Might I suggest the cheaper route, here’s what you need :
Small and large stars, a hair clip or comb, gold wire, and some gold spray paint. There are some videos and tutorials out there, just Google DIY Rodarte Clip, but I kinda just winged it when I did mine.
Spray paint your stars , cut long pieces of wire, alternate wrapping the wire around large and small stars,attach to hair clip or comb in whatever way looks good to you. Easy peezy and super chic!
Got some awesome gold Art Craft cat eyeglasses from the 50s. Just need to have my prescrip put in them and I will be able to see T.V. again.
We just had a freakish ice storm, followed by days of power loss and then we had an earthquake. Which one of you slapped a curse on S.C. {fess up now and we’ll go easy on ya}. I almost burnt my house down trying to cook in my fireplace. I don’t like pioneering.
Besides my normal mama and wife duties, I’ve also been standing out in the freezing cold at Estate Sales treasure hunting for my Etsy shop. Fun Stuff.
Bacon tee from Old Navy, bracelet from Dillards, fancy shirt from one of those stores at the mall that you never bothered to know the name of ???? and some root concealer from Sephora, you did see that I turned 40, this stuff works, sister.
Candied bacon, I think I had a dream about it. Good thing I have associated guilt with my bacon consumption or I’d be a real porker. {haha} Yes, I went there.
I have yet to start the healthy eating phase of 2014.
Its gonna be a good year.
How’s it going for you?

I am certainly not the best, by any means at Christmas decor, I am more of a Halloween gal, but after many years, I finally figured out the secret of Christmas decorating.
Ribbon.
Start out by picking out some ribbon that suits your fancy, fill your cart up with it and then slap it on everything you own.
{Apparently, ribbon has some magical powers in the universe }
Coordinating ribbon can instantly transform your everyday items from BLAH to FA LA LA in a jiffy and make it seem like you really thought this thing out.
Here’s a quickie tour of my decorations for this year, I didn’t go all out this year, since I was sick and pretty busy, but it came together all the same. {ribbon} wink, wink.
Front
Love these vintage silk thread ornaments, I got from an estate sale, I bet you probably had some of these on your tree growing up.
This is Bob. He’s so jolly, he doesn’t need ribbon.
Kitchen Chandelier
This light was a DIY project. I saw a beautiful wood beaded fixture online for 1,200.00 bucks, so I went to Hobby Lobby, bought some wood beads and wood finial, strung them on my Lowe’s fixture and this is how it turned out!
Here are some links from Tator Tots & Jello for some DIY Wood Bead Chandeliers.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas.

My daughter had been wanting a white room for some time, so this is what I came up with for her!
I took the top off her old desk, distressed the legs and up cycled an old wood palate that I had in the garage to make a new shabby chic top.
Ravelo hanging chair from Amazon and Ikea Wall Mirror that I white washed and then added lights
Shag rug is actually (6) smaller rugs from Walmart that I just placed together, that way if something gets spilled on them, they can easily just be tossed in the wash individually!
She loves to make movies, so this vintage movie screen that I thrifted was just the thing to complete the look.
This room is now a peaceful little white sanctuary. I may have to move in. {if she will let me}
Check out the vintage bombshell high-waisted suit I scored at the Goodwill. So stinkin’ Fabulous!
As we were taking our golf cart for a little stroll this weekend, we came upon a sea of wild blackberry bushes. OMG, free organic food is so rad!
What a sweet summer surprise:)
My Etsy shop is now open, all kinds of vintage goodies to be had…check it out!

Here’s a couple of ideas, I thought would be fun to DIY.
I’m a girl and I love anything with tulle and these tulle socks from Shinetrimblog are just righteous! If you can sew a little you can make yourself a pair of these bad boys. Click here for the tutorial.
You could totally rock this chain headband from the love Meagan blog, stand out at the beach or an outdoor concert. Yep. Click here to see how to do it.
Simple heart cut out tee from the made in pretoria blog. This would be real cute over your swimsuit and it takes about 5 minutes to make. Click here to make yourself one.
I love, love this idea. It comes from the chick at alittle glass box blog. She wrote a letter to her son on a piece of linen material and then covered a lampshade with it for his room. This is a super cool idea for a kids room or nursery. Would also be awesome for an Anniversary present, Valentines day, a newly married couple setting up house or your boyfriend. You could write your vows on it, your favorite poem, a love letter or any ole thing you feel like. Beautiful.

Stripes are in, Sister! Check out this cute and easy DIY Mod tee courtesy of Sprinkles in Springs blog. This tee would be perfect for Summer.
How cute is this bathing cap? Picture yourself doing one of those sideways dives into a pool or just looking retro chic at the beach. Yes, putting this on must haves list for Summer.
I was so excited to see these when thrifting. These are mid-century Hollywood Regency Style lamps. They are super tall and have the original shades and brass feet. OMG!
This is how I styled them in my dining room.
They are just too gorge, you can light the top and bottom together or just the top or the bottom separately.
You just never know what you will find out there, so get out there and thrift!
AMUSE BOUCHE
{ The French phrase amuse-bouche literally means “something to please the mouth,” and both refer to an appetizer or pre-meal tidbit.}
Next time you have people over, now you can serve them up an “Amuse-Bouche” which will certainly demonstrate just how fancy you really are!
